Handmade from natural fibre paper, this gift bag reflects the natural beauty and sustainable lifestyle of the Kathmandu Valley region.

The paper is made by harvesting the bark of the Lokta tree. The bark grows back within 2-3 years. The bark is boiled with soda ash, mashed with a long pole into a pulp, then poured into a shallow wooden box and filtered evenly through a screen. The screen is removed and sun dried in a field. This process takes 2-3 days.

These unique paper designs are made by artisans who are paid a fair wage, 20% to 30% above standard wages, that no child labour is used and that additional free training and educational opportunities are offered.
