Fleurtje Bags

Publié par Marisa Ramondo le

fleurtje = little flower (dutch)
"i want to make bags that people will use everyday"

In 1997 designer Nicole Fleur van der Oord saw a real need: "attractive, well constructed bags for people that didn't consider themselves 'purse' people". With a background in fashion and textile design, Nicole set out to fill that need. Already making bags for herself, this Dutch descendant decided she could make a business of it. Combining her love of vintage textiles, simplistic design and sewing skills, she designed her first line, fleurtje. Clean line, durable and functional bags for women. After being accepted into the One of a Kind Show and Sale, her line took off and became a permanent fixture at the show. After five successful years on Queen Street West and The Distillery District, it was time to move home again. In 2008, the focus is on family and bags. Nicole working from home again can have the best of both and can further add to her collections. Look for bags in stores across Canada.

Nicole's love of colour has always been a part of her design. All bags are crafted from a rainbow of (animal friendly) industrial vinyl, accented with vibrant vintage prints and vintage automotive upholstery vinyls. New in 2004, the fleurtje line expanded to include landscape bags. All one of a kind, hand scissor cut, these landscapes are an expression of Nicole's childhood.

Nicole prides herself on being Canadian made and not mass producing. All bags are handmade to order in small quantities or one of a kind. Produced at home in Mississauga, Ontario.

why vinyl?
+ it's not leather and it's not trying to be
+ it's durable and easy to clean - just wipe
+ high grade, light weight, upholstery quality
+ wide range of juicy colours, the possibilities are endless.
