Eco-Handbags.ca celebrates its 15-year partnership with 1% For the Planet

Eco-Handbags.ca, an online boutique selling handbags and other accessories, home decor, jewellery, and more, made from recycled or eco-friendly materials, has been donating 1% of its annual sales to support non-profit organizations focused on the environment since 2006.

“Eco-Handbags.ca’s very core is the belief in the conservation and preservation of our Mother Earth. We are excited to be part of the 1% network and work with other member companies to be a driving force for positive environmental change.  This partnership has been an extension of the giving back that we have been committed since our company has existed.”  says Marisa Ramondo, founder of Eco-Handbags.ca.

Members of 1% for the Planet contribute one percent of annual sales directly to any of the approved non-profit environmental organizations in the network. Non-profits are approved based on referrals, track record and environmental focus. Thousands of non-profits worldwide are currently approved.

“Our member companies have donated more than $175 million to our environmental non-profit partners to date. Currently, only 3% of total philanthropy goes to the environment and, only 3% of that comes from businesses. The planet needs bigger support than this, and our growing network of member businesses is doing its valuable part to increase giving and support on the ground outcomes. Our members lead with purpose and commitment, characteristics that consumers support. We’re excited to welcome Eco-Handbags.ca to our global network,” says Kate Williams, CEO of 1% for the Planet.

“When we are not in the office, we are outdoors growing our own vegetables, tending our flower garden, hiking in a forest nearby, biking along the lake or just enjoying nature in our backyard,” says Marisa.   “Giving back to the planet that feeds our souls is a natural part of the Eco-Handbags.ca ethos.  We are proud to have been members of 1% for the Planet for the last 15 years and hope to continue to help leave the environment in an even better place for future generation.”

About 1% for the Planet

1% for the Planet is a global organization that connects dollars and doers to accelerate smart environmental giving. We recognize that the current level of environmental giving – only 3% of total philanthropy – is not enough to solve the most pressing issues facing our planet.

Through our business and individual membership, 1% for the Planet inspires people to support environmental organizations through annual membership and everyday actions. We advise on giving strategies, we certify donations, and we amplify the impact of the network.

1% for the Planet was established in 2002 by Yvon Chouinard, founder of Patagonia, and Craig Mathews, founder of Blue-Ribbon Flie. Today, it is a network of more than 1,200 member businesses, a new and expanding core with hundreds of individual members, and thousands of non-profit partners in more than 60 countries.
